SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - In South Dakota, counties can impose a lien on property owners and individuals for delinquent taxes or repayment of services.
According to Minnehaha County Auditor Bob Litz, current outstanding liens could fund the county for year. He says outstanding liens total over $62 million.
County Commission Chairwoman Cindy Heiberger says $30 million in liens are from the public defender’s office.
The Commission today voted to compromise various categories of County Aid Liens, which it reviews every year.
