SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The City-sponsored cleanup of three Sioux Falls neighborhoods removed over 1,200 tons of rubble and waste.
Project NICE and KEEP Manager LuAnn Ford says that’s twice the tonnage removed in 2012.
Ford says the bigest increase was in wood waste where crews removed over 52 truckloads of branches and trees. She says some of the hanging branches that broke in last April's ice storm finally died over the winter and were removed this spring.
Other totals: 757 truckloads of rubble, 9 truckloads of tires, 4 loads of appliances and 3 loads of yard waste.
Ford credits enthusiastic support from residents and volunteers, many of them city employees, for the success of this year's cleanup.
Ford says last year’s cleanup was cancelled because of Operation Timber Strike.
