SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether recommended to the City Council Thursday a general fund operating budget of just under $141 million.

Huether says this budget’s goals are to maintain the City’s financial strength, stay ahead of growth, enhance quality of life and strengthen the return on taxpayer’s dollars.

The Mayor says public safety is the primary focus with 38% of the operating budget at a little over $53 million dollars.  Next, he says, come streets and parks with a little over 28% of the budget.

The Mayor’s total recommended budget is $385.5 million that includes funding of the City’s utility services and capital projects.

Huether says revenues are projected to grow at 6% next year generating almost an additional $8 million.
