Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) – Thursday’s weather featured a little bit of everything from sunshine and 70’s to hailstones, tornadoes, and a significant amount of rain. Hale up to 2 inches in diameter was reported across central and southern Sioux Falls, and some areas of town experienced street flooding. A brief tornado touchdown was also reported between Canton and Harrisburg along Highway 11, while reports of funnel clouds and near touchdowns were filed from Hartford to northwestern Iowa.
Phil Schumacher of the National Weather Service said the tornado reported near Canton was tough to track because it immediately became rain-wrapped; we do know it was in a rural area and as of Thursday night no significant damage was reported.
Schumacher went on to add that the conditions were not ideal for severe weather on Thursday, however rotation in the storm and its position along a front made for ideal conditions for hale and heavy rain.
