SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - Officials with Community Blood Bank are grateful for the successful turnout at Saturday's 13th Annual Hog Wild Blood Drive.

Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank, says the 136 units raised will benefit over 400 patients.  "This is a tremendous help during a key time when blood is in extreme need," Versteeg says.

Versteeg says blood usage has increased in recent days by over 28 percent and has placed a heavy burden on the blood supply.  He encouraged donors to attend the "Heroes Behind the Badges" blood drive tomorrow from 1p-7p at Sunshine in Canton.

“Community support is vital to the local blood supply. It is important to know that the blood that is donated with Community Blood Bank is from your friends and neighbors in this region,” says Versteeg.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Canton area patients and encourage the community to help us by donating on the bloodmobile when it visits Sunshine tomorrow.”

Versteeg says Sioux Falls residents can visit the blood donor rooms at Sanford Medical Center (333-6444) or Avera McKennan Hospital (322-7111) to make a donation.
