SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - There are two kinds of storm chasers:  one studies weather, the other preys on homeowners with property damage from severe weather.

Jessie Schmidt with the Better Business Bureau says some of the later are going door-to-door in Sioux Falls.  She says ask to see a peddler's license that's required by Sioux Falls ordinance and if they don't show one it should signal the end of any business.

She says with any weather damage, contact your insurance company first to learn the scope of your coverage.  Once that's done, contact the BBB by website or the phone and find out which contractors have received the Bureau's high standard of accreditation.

Schmidt says once a contract is signed pay a third of the total cost to get the project going, another third halfway through and make the final payment after work is complete.

Schmidt anticipates mobile dent centers for cars popping up and they’re required to have a sales tax license and she advises you to ask if they’re bonded and insured.
