SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Governor Daugaard’s Chief of Staff Dusty Johnson says up to 45 homes in Wessington Springs sustained damage in last night’s tornado and two dozen of those are uninhabitable.
But Johnson says the residents, and folks from neighboring towns, are ready to clean and rebuild. He says a town meeting at the fire hall this morning was packed.
Johnson says 5 Wessington Springs business sustained substantial damage and 5 businesses had minor damage.
Daugaard is in Wessington Springs helping with the response and about a hundred National Guard and Highway Patrol Troopers are on the ground.
Guard Spokesman Major Anthony Deiss says his troop's first priority is security and then identifying which streets should be opened initially.
