The Great Cardboard Boat Race

SIOUX FALL, SD (KELO-AM) Don’t laugh! Cardboard boats really can float! In fact, many boats raced three times at last year’s event. Of those, we expect many will return and go for it again. But here’s the catch: You may only use corrugated cardboard and duct tape. Use your imagination. Cardboard may be waxed. Here’s a hint: If you layer the cardboard, it will be much stronger. No wood, Styrofoam, fiberglass, or plastic, except for your oars and paddles. All boats must be powered by humans 7 years and older. Five age divisions. All boats will be judged based on creativity, sea-worthiness—and quickest to sink! Come join in on the fun and win some prizes. Each boat will need two participants, one at each end of the pool. Lifejackets for this event will be provided by Parks and Recreation and must be worn by contestants. Swimsuits required. Ages 7 and older. Free. Registration required. Registration closes five business days in advance. Boat check-in at 9 a.m. Race at 10 a.m.

Kuehn Park Pool, 2309 South Kuehn Park Road 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12th
