Sioux Falls S.D. (KELO AM) - The 30th Annual Ag Appreciation Day, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and area businesses, will take place next Wednesday, (Aug. 7) at the Sioux Empire Fair.
Area farmers and ranchers are invited, through advertising in the Tri-State Neighbor and notices from Touchstone Energy, to pick up admission tickets at the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. The ticket gives the holder free admission into the Sioux Empire Fair until 1 p.m. on Aug. 7. A complimentary lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of the grandstand at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. More than 5,000 admission tickets are expected to be distributed to area producers.
The event is held each year during the Sioux Empire Fair to honor farmers and ranchers and is a small token to say “thank you” to producers for their tireless efforts in producing the food that we eat every day. This year’s event is being chaired by Cynthia Knudsen, Land O'Lakes/Dean Foods. More than 250 volunteers from area businesses who sponsor the event will be on hand to help serve the meal.
Many businesses from the region provide the funds and volunteers to help cook and serve the grilled pork loin sandwich lunch and provide musical entertainment from Mogen’s Heroes. Touchstone Energy Cooperatives sponsors the complimentary gate admission and attendees can attend the fair free as long as they arrive at the fairgrounds before 1 p.m.Elected officials and candidates running for office are expected to be in attendance, including U.S. Sen. John Thune and South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch.
