SIUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Where’s there’s smoke there’s haze.

And today’s hazy skies come from forest fires in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

Sioux Falls’ Forecaster Jeff Chapman says the haze will be around for a few days.  Chapman says there's a lot of strong northwest flow aloft and there's a large number of significant fires burning and the smoke has been moving into the Dakotas over the last couple of days.

Fire officials in Canada expect the situation to get worse before it gets better.

He says the northwest flow wll continue for at least through most of the week with scattered breaks from the smoke through the weekend.  But Chapman says the northwest flow returns early next week and the hazy skies will be back for quite a while.

Chapman says a Canadian high pressure will dominate our weather next week bringing cooler, dryer air with highs Tuesday and Wednesday at least ten degrees below normal.
