Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls is considering banning booze at Van Eps and Tower Parks downtown because of increasing complaints about alcohol-fueled problems.

According to Director of Parks and Recreation Don Kearney, the Parks and Recreation Board will consider an amended ordinance at their August 19 board meeting. If approved, the request would then be heard by the Sioux Falls City Council. The earliest the amended ordinance could become effective is October 3.

Currently, it is a violation of City Ordinance to consume any alcoholic beverages in the following public parks: Whittier, McKennan, Tuthill, Tomar, Heritage, Lyon, Kenny Anderson, Pasley, Arrowhead, and Veterans’ Memorial.

The latest example of the park problem was the stabbing of one woman by another at Van Eps in some sort of argument over cigarettes.
