SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls neighborhood watch groups are observing the 30th anniversary of National Night Out tonight.
Officer Jim Larson says the idea is for residents to come out of their homes, get to know their neighbors and make safer neighborhoods.
Larson says there are 90 registered Neighborhood Watch groups in Sioux Falls. Larson says it's important for residents to be aware of what's happening in their neighborhoods. He says they can be the eyes and ears of police. He says police are looking for good witnesses and reporting parties not vigilantes.
Larson says about a dozen neighborhoods are celebrating National Night Out with music, food and activities.
Target is the sponsor of the National Night Out campaign.
