SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls residents are notorious for not eating enough fruits and vegetables.
Mary Michaels with the Health Department says the Centers for Disease Control ranks Sioux Falls near the bottom in healthy eating.
Michaels says the Sioux Falls Food Council will be established to look into our reluctance, or barriers, to eating healty. She says availability to fresh, nutrious food might elude a portion of the population.
Michaels says up to 70 percent of an individual’s health is determined by environmental factors including access to affordable, nutritious foods.
She says a walkability study will focus on downtown Sioux Falls to determine how easy it is to walk as a means of exercise.
