SIOUX FALL, S.D. (KELO AM) - Classes starts Monday in the Sioux Falls School District and this weekend is a good time to talk with your children about staying safe.
Officer Sam Clemens advises going on a trial run with your kids to school. With a practice run they'll be familiar with the route, know where to cross streets, know where to wait for the bus and be able to avoid vacant lots and construction areas.
Clemens says it’s a good idea for kids to walk to school with a sibling or friends.
As kids prepare to go back to school, safety is always a top priority. Clemens says that applies to motorists too. Driver should keep an eye out for the child that crosses in the miiddle of the street or darts out in front of care.
The school zone speed limit is 15. Observing the speed limit will allow drivers time to react quickly and prevent tragedy.
