Sioux Falls S.D. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls Roller Dollz will return to their former home, the Arena at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, starting this fall.
Team spokeswoman Vanessa Sweeney, also known by her derby fans as Redvolution, says the team holds the Arena “near and dear to our hearts - and skates!”
“It means a lot for our league — increased visibility within the community, additional fan seating, and an improved fan experience,” Sweeney says. “The more people who attend our bouts translates to an even better relationship with our community, plus we hope to expose more people to the awesome sport of professional roller derby.”
The team’s first game on its new home track is September 13 at 7:00 pm against Winnipeg. The upcoming season is the team’s eighth playing professional roller derby. Sweeney says the Roller Dollz has a nice balance of veteran skaters and some new blood.
“Expect action-packed games and some new game play,” she says.
The Roller Dollz is a not-for-profit organization seeking to empower women and give back to the community. Like a lot of other teams around the country, the formation of the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz was inspired by the airing of A&E's series Rollergirls which chronicled the lives and sport of the Texas Lonestar Rollergirls, a bank-tracked derby team out of Austin, Texas.
