SOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - As the harvest draws nearer the availability of train cars in South Dakota is causing producers sleepless nights.
Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch says there’s good news from the Genesee and Wyoming line that spans central South Dakota.
Lentsch says the head of G&W has committed $12 million more in capital investments in South Dakota, which includes a current fleet of fifty locomotives with another nine or more being added yet this year.
Lentsch says with last year’s crops still in bins, or elevators, it’s imperative that there are enough rail cars to get another bumper crop to market.
