SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Big Sioux River is the heart of Sioux Falls so keeping it clean and healthy is crucial.

Jesse Neyens, with the City’s Environmental Department, says Wednesday’s, Mayor's Big Sioux River Water Summit will focus on conserving the resource.

Neyens says the State has deemed the Big Sioux impaired because of sediment and bacteria.  He says those are the two major initiatives the city is working on to meet water quality standards for the state of South Dakota.

Neyens says presentations will be made on water quality, resource and conservation, watershed partnerships and storm water management

The Summit is at the Hilton Garden Inn and is free and open to the public.
