Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The $5 million, three-phase renovation at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, one of South Dakota's most popular, is far enough along that all 27 holes are open this weekend. Its the first time golfers have been able to play Elmwood since September of 2013.
Starting Monday, Elmwood will play as an 18-hole course, using the West 9 and the new East 9, until the entire project is completed. The project is a partnership between the city and the Sioux Falls Airport Authority.
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Director Don Kearney had a chance to play the new East Course just before it officially re-opened. He says he was really impressed. He wasn't really keeping score, but says he birdied the first hole.
The Elmwood project includes rerouting, grading and drainage improvements, concrete cart paths, irrigation and regrassing.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed in September 2016.
