Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel says the city has won a $625,000 grant that will double the number of new officers coming aboard next year from five to ten.
Barthel says that only about 17 percent of communities that applied for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant received any money. He says Sioux Falls was the only city in South Dakota to win a grant.
Barthel says says the city is growing and the additional police officers will help the police department to better serve the community.
