SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The Fifth Annual Paint the Plows event will display 27 plows painted by area elementary schools and youth agencies this Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The plows will be on exhibit at the Empire Mall in the JCPenney north parking lot.
The students and their friends and family as well as the general public are welcome to come, view the plows, and vote for your favorite. The plows are set up to be viewed by car or on foot. During this time, teachers or other representatives can pick up their participation certificates as well.
“The painting of the plows is enjoyable for the people who paint them, but it’s also rewarding for the plow drivers during snow removal,” says Galynn Huber, Street and Fleet Operations Manager. “The honks and waves from people passing by and the excitement of the kids as they see their plow go by are priceless for the drivers. They are definitely conversation pieces all over the city.”
The Street Division primes the plows, and the schools and organizations supply the paint. The participants receive the plows at the end of August after school starts and complete their works of art the first week in October. People who attend Saturday’s event can vote for their favorite plows. The top three favorites, along with the plow painted by the Street Division themselves, will be featured in the Parade of Lights through downtown Sioux Falls this November.
