Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - South Dakotans Against Prohibition gathered outside the scene of Wednesday’s Gubernatorial debate in Sioux Falls to protest Dennis Daugaard’s opposition of legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes. A handful of protesters waved signs for about a half hour at the corner of Phillips and 13th street.
Ryan Gaddy emphasized his group is not for the recreational use of the drug, they are strictly pro-medical use. “It can help kids with epilepsy, it can help cancer, it can help Crohns disease” said Gaddy. He added that with 23 states already legalizing medical marijuana, he feels the country should stop being divided over the issue. “I believe we need to start being the United States of America, rather than the divided states of America.”
Gaddy added that when it comes to recreational use of marijuana, he feels the voters of South Dakota should decide if and when the time comes.
