Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Every vote counts, and sometimes is counted multiple times. That’s going to be the case in the SD District 9 House race between Incumbent Paula Hawks and challenger Bob Deelstra.
When everything was tallied Wednesday morning Deelstra was seven votes shy of Hawks for the seat. He says he’s issued the challenge not only because of the narrow gap between the candidates, but because of the delay in getting the results from Minnehaha County as well.
Deelstra added if nothing else it’s a teachable moment – a reason to let folks know that their votes matter and can make a difference. On top of that, a seven vote difference is worth a second look.
It’s the only recount that’s been called for so far from Tuesday’s election.
