Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The National Weather Service says precipitation is expected to develop Sunday afternoon as a mix of light rain and snow from eastern South Dakota into southwest Minnesota. This precipitation will be quite light, compared to that expected to develop later Sunday night, as a band of heavy snowfall develops from northern South Dakota across Minnesota. To the south of this band, there will likely be a period of light mixed precipitation before changing over to snow on Monday. The first widespread accumulating snowfall is expected, with greatest amounts well north of Interstate 90.
The greater snowfall potential of more than 4 inches exists north of a Huron to Windom line, but much heavier snowfall is expected from Watertown toward the Twin Cities, especially during the day on Monday. Winds will increase substantially on Monday and may lead to areas of significantly reduced visibilities through Monday night.
The immediate Sioux Falls area currently is not in a Watch or Advisory area, where an inch or two of snow is expected. Huron, Brookings, Pipestone and Marshall are under a Winter Storm Watch, While Aberdeen, Watertown, Redwood Falls and the Twin Cities are under a Winter Storm Warning.
