Augustana Women's basketball signs two for 2015-16

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN)– The Augustana women's basketball team announced the signing of two players on Wednesday.  McKenzee Zilverberg and Hana Metoxen each have signed their letter of intent to continue to their academic and athletic careers at Augustana."We are very excited to officially welcome McKenzee and Hana as the newest members of Augustana women's basketball," head coach Dave Krauth said.

"Both of these young ladies are enjoying great high school careers heading into their senior seasons on the court and in the classroom as well. We look forward to having their talents, effort, and enthusiasm in our basketball program and Augustana family.

"Zilverberg is a 5-foot-6 guard out of Harrold, S.D. She is a five-year letterwinner from Highmore-Harrold High. Zilverberg was named Class B All-State third team as a junior with averages of 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.

The senior guard was also a first team 281 All-Conference selection last year, and named the Offensive MVP by the team. She was also a 281 All-Conference second team selection in volleyball as a junior and state qualifier in both Cross Country and Track the last two years.Metoxen is a 6-foot post player out of Eastview High School in Eagan, Minn. The senior was a 2014 Class 4A State Tournament All-Tournament team selection for the state champion Lightning, who are coached by former Augustana standout and all-time leading scorer Melissa (Olson) Guebert.  

Metoxen averaged 8.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.25 steals per game as a junior. She also named South Suburban All-Conference as a junior and made the St. Olaf Holiday Tournament All-Tournament team during the season. She was elected as team captain for Eastview last year.

The Eagan, Minn. native also was a South Suburban All-Conference selection in track during her junior year.The Vikings open the season on Friday with a game against Chadron State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
