Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) – The 23rd annual Parade of Lights is taking place this Friday, November 28th at 7:30 p.m. Led by Grand Marshal Frank Boerema, the route goes from 14th to 5th Street on Phillips Ave. Street closure details can be found here. Most streets close at 6:15 p.m.
Presenting sponsor CenturyLink will be providing free WiFi hotspots for the public to upload photos using #POL2014. The hotspots will be at 13th and Phillips, 11th and Phillips and 8th and Phillips.
“We’re excited to bring WiFi technology to the Parade of Lights this year,” said Julie Darrington, CenturyLink vice president of operations for North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska. “Technology is not only changing the way the world is working and learning, it is also changing the way we interact with the world at social events. CenturyLink is a technology and customer-driven company, and we are pleased to be able to use our technology to help support the parade and our community.”
Parade-goers are encouraged to snap photos and upload them for public view to their Twitter and Instagram accounts using #POL2014. Photos will be shown in an interactive presentation at the awards ceremony immediately following the parade at the downtown Holiday Inn City Centre.
Those who share their parade photos will also be entered into the Parade of Lights photo contest. Photos will be posted to the DTSF Facebook page following the event and the public will vote for a winner who will receive downtown giftcard.
Vendors will be selling hot chocolate before and during the parade and will even fill up your reusable, insulated mugs, making it a “green” event as well as a " high tech" event!
