Cirque Du Soleil preparing for six shows

Sioux Falls, SD KELO AM) — Cirque du Soleil, the international performing sensation celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, makes its South Dakota debut at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center for six shows this week, Thursday through Sunday.

“Cirque” has brought wonder and delight to close to 150 million spectators for three decades in more than 300 cities in over forty countries on six continents.

From a group of a mere twenty street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil has grown into a major Québec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. The company has close to 4,000 employees, including 1,300 artists from close to 50 different countries.

A limited number of tickets are available for Thursday night’s opening performance, as well as for other performances. Tickets for Cirque du Soleil: Varekai are available at the KELOLAND box office at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, at www.cirquedusoleil.com/varekai, www.ticketmaster.com or charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000. Ticket prices range from $30 - $147.

The production crew travelled to Sioux Falls in 18 trucks and 27 technicians. On average, an additional 80 people are hired locally on load-in days to load the show and about 100 people on load-out days to pack it all up. It takes us roughly 12 hours to set the show up and about three and a half hours to put it back and head on out to the next city.

Additionally, there are almost 100 moving lights and 330 bamboo trees as part of the production.
