SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Assistant Police Chief of Sioux Falls Patti Lyon announced today that she’ll retire in March.
Lyon says she was not delivering a farewell speech today, instead she will stay with the deaprtment until March and help her replacement in the transition.
Mayor Mike Huether says Lyon has always stood behind her team. Huether says it was Lyon who was instrumental in getting the rank and file to realize the benefits of restucturing the City's pension plan for the police department.
Chief Doug Barthel says Lyon will leave behind big shoes to fill. Barthel says Lyon could have given two weeks and left the department short-handed but she decided to help train her replacement.
The mayor will appoint Lyon’s replacement. Mayor Dave Munson first appointed Lyon as assistant police chief.
