SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Better Business Bureau says 44% of holiday purchases this year will be online.
Jessie Schmidt with BBB says scammers see phishing opportunities by posing as shippers, retailers and banks in emails. Schmidt says by opening those emails you could be exposing your system to malware and spyware.
Schmidt says scammers then have access to your financial security and can rack up your debt.
Other BBB tips: Watch out for seasonal work-from-home jobs, family emergency scams with a holiday twist, online dating services are monitored by scam artists and make sure the charity you are giving money to is legitimate.
