SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Highway11 through Corson is now open again after a wind-whipped fire had closed it for several hours Thursday.
County Emergency Manager Lynn DeYoung says the property owner was burning wood piles when the fire spread out of control to the main structure of an old grain elevator. DeYoung says the elevator is very old and the wood was very dry so it burned like a huge bonfire. Pictures taken from overhead by the Civil Air Patrol highlight the extent of the blaze.
DeYoung says firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to other structures.
