Robbers try extorting return of stolen articles

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A car burglary grew into social media extortion for a Sioux Falls man.

Officer Sam Clemens says after burglars broke a car window to steal business and personal items, the victim posted a reward for their return on Facebook and Craig’s list.

Clemens says the victim began getting texts saying that for $5,000 the stolen items would be returned. That's when the victim called police

Undercover police agreed online to meet the suspects and arrested Dallas Bass and David Leemhuis, both 21 of Sioux Falls, for possession of stolen property and burglary tools.
