Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) – A high speed chase that began in Iowa and reached speeds near 100 miles per hour through Canton ended near Harrisburg North Middle School in Sioux Falls Monday with the arrest of an escaped inmate from the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
Police say David Holloway walked away from a minimum security unit on May 10th and was spotted in east Sioux Falls on Monday in a white pickup with Nebraska plates. Later that day the same white pickup ran into a patrol car in Iowa, beginning the chase that lasted nearly an hour. Holloway led officers through Canton, onto Interstate 29 through Worthing, then on gravel backroads to Sioux Falls.
Holloway was finally arrested near the intersection of Highway 115 and 271st Street. He was stopped when a citizen was able to cut him off, enabling officers to catch up to the vehicle and take Holloway into custody.
Further details were not immediately available. It’s unclear why Holloway walked away from the Penitentiary.
