SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The City installed 24 pet waste stations along the bike trail and public parks for easy pickup of “man’s best friend’s” waste.
Park Operations Manager Kelby Mieras says it’s another way for patrons to help keep parks clean. Mieras says the effort encourages pet owners to use public parks while keeping green spaces and waterways clean and pollution free.
Sustainability Coordinator Jessica Lantgen says pet waste is a significant environmental issue. She says decaying, bacteria-laden pet waste can enter the river and becomes a health concern for humans and aquaticlife.
South Dakota Discovery Center awarded the City a $6,000 grant for the stations.
