SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Burlington Northern Sante Fe’s says there are too many close calls between trains and cars at crossings, so Sioux Falls Police put officers on trains.
Officer Sam Clemens says motorists have to stop at flashing red lights at railroad crossing before proceeding.
Clemens says officers on the trains would radio officers in cruisers about crossing runners. He says police did the same enforcement last year and wrote 18 tickets. He says police ran the same project yesterday and handed out 44 tickets.
A railroad crossing violation carries a 120 dollar fine.
