Task Force evaluates the school funding formula

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -  The Blue Ribbon Task Force on education in South Dakota got a primer on the school funding formula today.

Tammy Darnell with the Department of Education says the formula is state aid equals the total need, minus the local effort.

Darnell says total need consisits of per student allocation, the state aid fall enrollment, the small school adjustment and the limited english proficient adjustment.  And for local effort the state looks at levies and local property evaluation.          

The Governor's appointed Task Force will make recommendations on improving schools to next year’s legislature.
