SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission today voted to opt out of the state’s property tax freeze.
State’s Attorney Aaron McGowan supported the opt out noting how lean the County’s budget is.
McGowan says county departments are asking for what they absolutely need for responsible levels of services. He told the Commission that he appreciates their courage in passing an opt out. He says he knows it's not the easy thing to do but it's the right thing to do.
The Commission voted to opt out for three-and-a-half million dollars for 25 years.
The opt out passed unanimously.
