Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - A minimum-security state prison inmate from Sioux Falls has been placed on escape status after failing to return from a job search.

Inmate Ryan Dahl left the minimum-security unit on the grounds of the South Dakota State Penitentiary on a scheduled work release job search early this afternoon. He failed to return to the minimum-security unit by the scheduled time.

Dahl is a 21-year-old white male, 5-feet-11-inches tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds. He has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Dahl is currently serving an 8-year sentence with 5-years suspended for receiving/transferring a stolen vehicle, a consecutive 2-year sentence with 1-year suspended for possession of marijuana (more than 2 oz. but less than half a pound) and a consecutive 4-year sentence with 3-years suspended for distribution of marijuana to a minor. All of the sentences are from Lincoln County.

Anyone who sees Dahl or knows of his whereabouts should contact law enforcement immediately.

There are approximately 800 minimum-security inmates housed across the state, including more than 200 in Sioux Falls. More than 140 of those minimum-security inmates are on work release status.
