SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Ford Driving Skills for Life program teaches new teen drivers skills in key areas they tend to lack.

Nolan Katerbery with Ford says the free program will be offered tomorrow and Sunday at the South Dakota Highway Patrol office in Sioux Falls.

Katerbery says teens attending the hands-on camp will also learn the dangers of impaired driving through the use of a special suit and googles mimicking being under the influence.  The program also stresses not being distracted by phones and devices.

Katerbery says the leading cause of death among teens in the United States is vehicle crashes.

According to the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety, 12 teens, ages 13-19, were killed in motor vehicle accidents last year.  Of those who died six were drivers, five were passengers and one was a pedestrian.
