Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO-AM) - Police identify the victim in yesterday’s fatal car-motorcycle crash on West 41st as 56-year-old Dale Schoffelman of Sioux Falls.

Officer Sam Clemens says investigators suspect 25-year-old Trevor Blankartz was under the influence of pills when he pulled out in front of Schoffelman’s motorcycle.

Blankartz told investigators that he was distracted by a bicyclist and did not see Schoffelman as he turned onto 41st Street.

Clemens says Blankartz is charged with vehicular homicide.

Sioux Falls Police Department, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and Paramedics Plus were dispatched Sunday afternoon to the area of 41st Street and Westbrooke Lane for a car versus motor cycle accident.

The investigation revealed that a 1991 Buick Regal was attempting to enter onto 41st from Westbrooke Lane when it collided with a 2012 Harley Davidson Road Glide Motorcycle that was traveling west bound.

The Buick Regal was driven by Trevor W. Blankartz, 25, of Sioux Falls. Trevor Blankartz was lodged at the Minnehaha County Jail on charges of Vehicular Homicide, DWI, and careless driving. Blankartz had his bond set at $10 thousand cash on Monday. He has several drug related charges in the past, including incidents of possession of 2 oz. or less of pot.

The DWI charges are not related to alcohol, although it's still unknown what specific drug was in his system at the time of the crash.
