SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Over 900 women will gather Thursday to support Sioux Empire seniors at the annual WomenUnite luncheon.
Brandi Miller with the United Way says the focus is on Better Together, a program that pairs independent older adults with volunteers for social opportunities.
Miller says the goal of Better Together is to combat loneliness, a major contributor to depression, chronic health problems, resulting in higher medical costs. She says time spent need only be a cup of coffee, shopping, playing cards or volunteering in community activities.
Miller says there are so many older residents who just need a friend to spend time with.
