Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - At approximately 2:33 a.m. Officers of the Sioux Falls Police Department were dispatched to Hy-Vee, located at 2700 W. 10th St. for a report of a stolen pick-up truck.  Upon arrival the victim reported that he had been dropping of newspapers for the Argus Leader and had left his 2005 Dodge pick-up running outside of the store.   He stated that as when he returned to his truck he observed it driving away from the store.

A short time later an Officer located the truck in the 200 block of S. Elmwood Ave.   The Officer observed a male subject standing outside of the truck.   It appeared that he was rummaging through the interior of the truck.   The Officer identified himself and ordered the subject away from the truck.  The subject climbed into the truck and drove at the Officer.   The Officer was able to move out of the path of the truck before being struck by the truck.    The suspect drove south on Elmwood Ave.   He ran through the red light at 12th St and continued south on Elmwood Ave.   The Officer attempted to catch the suspect and soon discovered the truck disabled and abandoned in the 800 block of S. Roberts Dr.    The truck had struck 2 parked vehicles before it was abandoned.

Officers attempted to locate the suspect but he could not be found.   As Officers were looking for the suspect they observed a white Toyota Camry suspiciously driving around in the area.  When the Officers ran the license plate of the Toyota they discovered that it had been reported stolen to the Sioux Falls Police Department on the morning of September 6th, 2015.   Officers were able to stop the vehicle near 16th St and Western Ave.   It was occupied by a female.  She was identified as 25 year old Daneesha Mercy Warrior.   Warrior was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and outstanding warrants for her arrest.   At this time it is unclear if Warrior has any association with the subject who attempted to run over the police officer.

The suspect is described as a 20 year old Native American male.  He is 6”0 tall and weighs 160-170 pounds.  The suspect has a buzzed haircut and was wearing glasses.   He was last seen wearing a white or gray shirt and blue jeans.   If anyone has information as to the identity of the suspect they are asked to contact the Sioux Falls Police Department at 367-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 367-7007.
