SIOUX FALLS (KELO AM) - Thursday afternoon at approximately 2 pm Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a house fire at 1443 N. Main. Initial reports were that the resident heard an explosion and there was smoke coming from the basement.
Fire units arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the crawl space of a single family home. The sole resident was out of the home prior to fire crew’s arrival and was unharmed. Crews confirmed there was no one inside the structure and then worked to extinguish the fire from the exterior due to structural concerns and energized utilities. The house is uninhabitable due to the fire and the resident is being assisted by the Red Cross.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 3 support vehicles, 4 fire trucks, and 20 personnel. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus Ambulance, Sioux Falls Public Works, Mid-American Energy, and American Red Cross.
With cooler weather coming our way, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to not use portable space heaters near combustible products and never use them in conjunction with an extension cord.
