SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) This season’s flu vaccine is now available, and the Sioux Falls Health Department is encouraging everyone to get their flu shots.

“Because the virus that causes the flu changes every year, the flu shot you received last year will not protect you this coming flu season,” says Dr. Jennifer Tinguely, Chief Medical Officer at Falls Community Health. “Getting a flu shot now is part of a healthy lifestyle. It will offer protection to you, your family, and your community through the upcoming flu season.”

The flu is a serious illness that can lead to hospitalization or even death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccination for everyone age six months and older. It is also important for people 65 and older, pregnant women, caregivers, and people with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and lung disease to be vaccinated.

Immunizations for adults and children are available by appointment at Falls Community Health, 521 North Main Avenue. Make your appointment today by calling 605-367-8793. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
