Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) – Sioux Falls Police were in the right place at the right time early Sunday morning.
Just after midnight on Sunday, officers were in the parking lot of 3004 South Minnesota Avenue when they heard a crash.
Final investigation showed that 23 year old Austin Johnson stole a cash box from a business sharing the parking lot. A female witness tried to stop him and was knocked down by the suspect’s vehicle as he fled. She was treated at a local hospital.
Johnson then struck a power pole in the lot, knocking it into another pole. He fled on foot and entered an associate’s vehicle a few blocks away.
The associate, identified as 22 year old Christopher Rave, was arrested for DWI.
Johnson was arrested for theft, assault, DWI, and leaving the scene of an accident.
