Sedentary jobs take their toll in the long run

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -  A University of Iowa study shows employees with sit-stand desks stood 60 minutes more, and walked an additional six minutes, per day compared to co-workers with conventional desks.

Professor Lucas Carr says sitting eight hours a day becomes more of an issue with each passing year.

Doctors recommend workers take a break from their desks to get the blood flowing at least once an hour.

Carr says if the boss won’t buy sit-stand desks, there are ways to combat the negative impacts of sitting all day.  He advises workers to drink a lot of water, then you can use the restroom at least once an hour, getting up and around.

Car says sedentary jobs account for 43 percent of all jobs nationwide.
