SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls School Board tonight will consider approving calendars for the next two years.
President Kent Alberty hopes the committee, of parents and school board members, finds a reasonable compromise of starting the school year a little earlier.
Last spring’s election mandates public schools start after Labor Day for the next two years.
For the first time in the Sioux Falls School District, just over fifty percent of the students qualify for either free or reduced priced meals.
Alberty says there are over 23,000 students in public schools.
Alberty says a household’s income determines a student’s eligibility for free or reduced price meals.
