Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The Safer Streets for Sioux Falls group is using strong language to blast City Council for voting down the proposed ban on using cell phones while driving.
The group's Rich Lauer says it was a "stunning display of mendacity" for Council to reject the ban on first reading as it means there will be no public testimony on the issue. Lauer also believes politics may have something to do with it because three of the five council members who voted against it are said to be thinking about running for mayor.
Lauer didn't seem to think that his group would try to mount a petition drive to place the ban before the voters. He says it is up to City Council to decide public safety issues.
