SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - With Thanksgiving a little over two weeks away, there has not been a return of bird flu in the Midwest poultry industry.
But Dale Wiehoff with the Institute for Agriculture and Trade says avian flu will likely be a part of poultry production.
Weihoff says when you limit thousands of birds with the same genetic makeup in a limited space and they share the same water and food it makes production ripe for the spread of disease once it gets inside the facility
Nearly 50-million chickens and turkeys in the United States were lost in the spring outbreak of bird flu.
