SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -Governor Daugaard today appointed Wayne Steinhauer of Hartford to complete the State House term of District 9 Representative Steve Hickey.
Steinhauer says it is an "awesome opportunity with a "steep learning curve." He will be in a listening and learning mode for the next weeks and months getting a feel for the issues and what people in District 9 think about them.
Steinhauer is the outgoing chairman of the Minnehaha County Planning Commission, on which he has served for 14 years. He retired last year as chief operations officer of Amesbury, after a thirty year career in business.
The appointment is effective immediately. Steinhauer will serve the rest of Representative Steve Hickey's term, which will expire after next year's election.
Steinhauer and his wife of forty years, Cindy, have two children and nine grandchildren
