Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) - If you party a little too much over the holiday weekend, AAA says just call for a safe ride home….and avoid a DUI. The “Tipsy Tow” service will be available through Monday. Triple A South Dakota spokesperson Marilyn Buskohl says the auto club’s Tipsy Tow service will give you, a friend and your vehicle a free ride home, no questions asked.
“Our aim is simply to cut down the number of alcohol-related crashes in South Dakota,” said Buskohl, “Last year in the state, there were 583 injuries in alcohol-related accidents. These crashes resulted in 47 fatalities. South Dakotans continue to pay a terrible price when motorists decide to drink and drive.” She adds choosing designated drivers, using taxis, serving zero-proof “mocktails” at holiday parties, and calling for Tipsy Tows are all great ways to avoid a DUI.
Tipsy Tows are available in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Yankton and Mitchell until 2 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30. AAA will give you, one more person and your car a free ride within a 15-mile radius from point of pickup but only to one destination: home. Tipsy Tow is free to everyone, AAA members and nonmembers alike. To access Tipsy Tow, call 800-AAA-HELP (222-4357) and say, “I need a Tipsy Tow.”
NOTE: Tipsy Tow is not a nationwide program. Outside South Dakota, call the local AAA club to see if it’s offered where you are.
