Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls will be the first place in South Dakota to use special software to synchronize stoplights to improve traffic flow.

The State Transportation Department is investing $500,000 to install the technology along super busy 41st Street in Sioux Falls. The software is supposed to automatically adjust the lights based on the volume of vehicles and traffic conditions.  If it works, and it has in other states, it should mean less time waiting at lights and better traffic safety.

DOT's director of planning and engineering, Joel Jundt, told the Capital Journal in Pierre that another set of software is under consideration for Omaha Street in Rapid City.
